CHAPTER : 3

SUMMARY

Leila took the plane with Dr Hafez to Cuzco. On board, there was a big party of German tourists. Dr Hafez felt happy when he read the papers Leila brought. They were working along the right track. Dr Hafez said the ancient Egyptians and the ancient Incas were similar as both used to put gold and silver objects beside the bodies of their kings. They both mummified their kings, dressed them beautiful clothes and put gold masks on their faces. They also put gold figures of animals, food and drinks beside them.

On the other hand, in festivals, the Incas put the mummified kings on litters and took them through the streets. Moreover, the Incas killed women and servants and buried them with the king to take care of him in the next world.

Dr Hafez said that Martin left his work in the United Mining as he got involved in getting things found in tombs out of Peru.

Dr Hafez organized work in Peru. There were two teams under his directions. Leila would be in charge of one team with three local archaeologists.

When they landed, they met Amalia who was on Leila’s team. Amalia took them in the Land Rover to the site. Leila was sad because Amalia offered to help Dr Hafez and didn’t offer to help her although she was carrying more luggage than Dr Hafez.
