CHAPTER : 8

SUMMARY

The police examined the safe and found that the lock hadn’t been broken. The safe was opened with a key. The police searched everyone’s things and took the fingerprints on the safe. Leila was shocked when she was told that a little gold rabbit was found among her things. Leila denied stealing it. She was taken in a police car and was put in a cell. She burst into tears.

Amalia came to Leila and confessed she had put the gold rabbit among her work clothes. She did so out of jealousy, as she was Dr Hafez’s assistant and in charge of her team. She couldn’t bear that Leila would get all the credit for finding the mask and having her name in newspapers and on TV. Leila was set free.

Leila asked Amalia about the gold mask, but Amalia didn’t know where it had gone. She said that Lander might be found in Acomayo. There was another excavation taking place there. Amalia dialed Dr Hafez and told him that Leila had been set free. They were going to Acomayo hoping to catch Lander. The weather was bad and the way was dangerous, but Amalia was a good driver.
